Conscious from the outset that we wanted to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum, we researched the best available transport options for our environment.
It became apparent very early on that a pure electric vehicle was not viable in the foreseeable future. We settled on a highly efficient and modern diesel engine running in tandem with an electric Hybrid motor which would provide the best of both technologies and significantly reduce our CO2 emissions.
Bluebird Tours commenced operations in 2012. Our aim is to provide value for money, informative tours around the Lake District. There are four different tours run on Monday through Saturday. We will be adding more by popular demand.
For those groups who want something different, we will prepare a Bespoke Tour for up to 16 people. These tours are designed to visit parts of the Lake District in which you may have a particular interest. You design your very own Lake District Adventure!
We are particularly aware of the environment within which we operate and, we strive to protect it for the future. When clients utilise our services, they too are helping to protect the Lake District, whilst enjoying the pleasure of letting us take the driving strain.
David Balchin, Head of Sales at Ashwoods, the suppliers of our Hybrid System, said; ‘We are really proud to support greener tour operator Bluebird Tours of Coniston, who are taking action on climate change and leading the way in sustainable tourism by choosing one of our Hybrids to power their vehicle.’
This system allows us to fully support the Lake District National Park Authority’s
vision of a sustainable transport system. Our vehicles dovetail neatly into this
plan. This initiative helps shape the response to climate change, making the Lake
District a leader on carbon management and working with partners to chart the way
ahead towards a low-
Hybrid buses reduce emissions of local pollutants and carbon dioxide by at least 30 per cent compared to conventional diesel buses. We are proud to be helping to keep a cleaner environment in the Lake District.
